Opera Queensland has released 2,500 $25 tickets to Bizet’s classic opera, The Pearlfishers, which will run at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC from 25 May to 3 June 2017.
Since 2015, OperaQ’s $25 ticket initiative has allowed thousands of Queenslanders to see an opera for the first time for the price of a beer and a pizza. This year the company wants to make it even more memorable, offering one lucky ticket buyer a luxury prize.
Everyone who buys a ticket to Bizet’s The Pearlfishers by 3 June will automatically be entered into the draw to win a pair of Australian South Sea keshi pearl earrings from Paspaley valued at $1,580.* OperaQ is proud to partner with iconic Australian luxury brand Paspaley and the competition winner will be announced in the June issue of OnQ – OperaQ’s monthly e-newsletter – and on Opera Queensland’s website and social media channels.
The Pearlfishers has not been seen in Queensland for 15 years, so opera lovers will relish the return of its famous duet ‘Au fond du temple saint’ and the compelling story of love, obsession, friendship and greed, which has been a perennial favourite with Australian audiences.
OperaQ Artistic Director Lindy Hume believes the beautiful and exotic grand opera will be a joy for opera lovers and soon-to-be opera lovers alike.
“We want to encourage as many people as possible to share the emotion of seeing a real opera for the first time, of hearing the power of the voices and seeing this amazing 400 year old artform up close,” Ms Hume said.
The production stars Australia’s prima diva Emma Matthews, who has received more Helpmann Awards than any other individual artist and was recently named Limelight Magazine’s Australian Artist of the Year for 2016. She’s joined by tenor Aldo Di Toro, bass Andrew Collis, and London-based Australian baritone Grant Doyle in his OperaQ debut, directed by Michael Gow, with award winning designs by Robert Kemp and Matt Scott, supported by The Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Opera Queensland Chorus, conducted by Graham Abbott.
All $25 tickets to The Pearlfishers will be released on 26 April and are expected to sell fast.
