THE COURIER MAIL
Last night, the combined forces of Opera Queensland, La Boite and Brisbane Festival obliterated everything you knew about the girl with skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony to deliver a mind-bending re-imagining of the Grimm classic like you’ve never seen.
Through a killer collaboration between our very own Lindy Hume (Director), Zulya Kamalova (Composer) and Suzie Miller (Writer), this SNOW WHITE is an evocative cocktail of genres spanning musical theatre, opera, vaudeville and physical theatre.
The cast features Stephanie Pickett, an indie-rocker having toured 3 continents with her original music, Michael Tuahine, a multi-disciplinary musician and singer, whose most recent appearances include QTC’s Mother Courage and Her Children and Country Song, Kanen Breen, a superstar of the Australian Opera world known for his performance of Rodolfo in Baz Luhrmann’s production of La Boheme on Broadway and, rounding this eclectic cast as the Evil Queen, Silvia Colloca, a trained opera singer and TV personality whose cooking show ‘Made in Italy with Silvia Colloca’ currently airs on SBS.
Come with us to a place far from Disney princess-land where mirrors tango, where gorgeous music evokes a confronting yet enticing tale, and where old fables morph into new.
