Australian/Italian tenor Virgilio Marino studied voice at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and subsequently at the Mannes College of Music in New York. In 2003, Virgilio pursued further studies in Italy before making his professional debut at Theater Regensburg, Germany, in the roles of the Duke in Rigoletto and the title role in Oberon.
In 2006, Virgilio joined Opera Queensland where his roles have included Pinkerton and Goro in Madama Butterfly, Almaviva for The Barber of Seville, Ramiro in Cinderella, Rodolfo in La bohème, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, the Duke and Borsa in Rigoletto, Jaquino in Fidelio, Roderigo in Otello, Malcolm in Macbeth, Spoletta in Tosca, Gastone in La traviata, Monostatos and First Armed Man in The Magic Flute, Pong in Turandot, Harry in La fanciulla del West, Njegus in The Merry Widow and Alfredo in Die Fledermaus.
In 2017, Virgilio will return to West Australian Opera for the Opera Gala Concert, Opera Queensland to sing Camille de Rosillon in The Merry Widow at Queensland Music Festival’s Opera at Jimbour and cover the role of Nadir in The Pearlfishers. He will also cover the roles of Goro in Madama Butterfly and Camille de Rosillon in The Merry Widow for Opera Australia.
