Roxane Hislop is a graduate of Sydney University and the NSW Conservatorium of Music. She won the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship, the Inaugural AIMS Scholarship, the Dame Mabel Brooks Scholarship and the Sydney Sun Aria Award and represented Australia at the national finals of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions in New York. Roxane was awarded a Green Room Award for best female artist in a supporting role as Maddalena in Rigoletto and Olga in Eugene Onegin. With an Operatic repertoire of over 50 roles, she has appeared with every major opera company and symphony orchestra in Australia.
Most recent and forthcoming performances include Mrs Herring in Albert Herring, Rossweisse in Die Walküre, and Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro for Opera Australia; Baba the Turk in The Rake’s Progress, Marcellina and Third Lady in The Magic Flute, multiple roles in Midnight Son and Teresa in a concert performance of La Sonnambula for Victorian Opera; and Gertrude in Hänsel and Gretel for State Opera of South Australia.
Concert engagements include Beethoven’s 9th with the West Australian and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras; Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortileges with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra; (Not) The Last Night of the Proms and Messiah with Queensland Symphony Orchestra; The Dream of Gerontius, Elijah, Messiah with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic; Missa Solemnis, A Jewish Chronicle and Tippett’s A Child of Our Time with Melbourne Chorale; and Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass, St. John Passion, Christmas Oratorio and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with Sydney Philharmonia.
In 2017, Roxane performs Dame Hannah in Opera Queensland’s Ruddigore, or The Witch’s Curse.
