In 1997, Robert completed a Bachelor of Music (Voice – Performance) after which he moved to Brisbane to take up a contract position with Opera Queensland. He progressed to become an integral member of Opera Queensland’s performers and remained there for five years.
In 2002, Robert moved to the United Kingdom to further his career in classical singing. Whilst in the UK, he performed as a freelance opera soloist, concert soloist and ensemble member of many companies and choirs, singing throughout the United Kingdom and further afield to Germany, Belgium and Greece. Highlights of his time in the UK include several tours with The Academy of St Martin in the Fields under the direction of the late Sir Neville Marriner. Robert returned to Australia and in 2014, was again engaged to perform with OperaQ.
Robert has performed operatic roles including Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro, Escamillo and Dan Cairo in Carmen and Sarastro and First Speaker in The Magic Flute. His concert soloist engagements include Haydn’s The Creation and The Seasons, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Samson and Messiah as well as Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C.
Robert also runs Toowoomba Opera Players, a small ensemble of vocalists who perform large scale choral works in a chamber environment, tapping into the wealth of young talent in south-east Queensland and providing them with opportunities to prepare and perform standard repertoire concert material.
