Katie Stenzel is a dynamic, young coloratura soprano. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music from QUT in 2007 and went on to complete her Masters of Music Studies at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2009.
Katie performed excerpts from The Mikado as Yum-Yum and Candide as Cunegonde for Opera Queensland’s Season 2012 and 2015 launches and understudied the roles during the respective mainstage productions. During 2015 and 2016, Katie appeared as a principal artist at a range of OperaQ events including Cloud Song, the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols and Opera in the Vineyard at Ballandean alongside David Hobson.
Katie is delighted to have created the role of Loretta for the recording of Peter Rankine and Rod Ainsworth’s new work, The Crushing: A Gothic Opera.
Katie sang in the Opera Australia chorus for the 2013 Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour production of Carmen. She also made her Adelaide Fringe Festival debut in 2014, in the role of The Doll in Pleasure Opera by Fat Lady Productions. Katie was a featured artist for the 2012 New Taipei City Drama Festival in Taiwan, singing a variety of repertoire including pieces from Candide, Gianni Schicchi and West Side Story.
2016 saw Katie make her mainstage principal debut with OperaQ as Rosina in the Brisbane season and regional Queensland tour of The Barber of Seville.
In 2017, Katie performs the role of Zorah and understudies Rose Maybud in OperaQ’s production of Ruddigore, or the Witch’s Curse!
