Jon Maskell is a graduate of Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University (Graduate Diploma of Music Studies) and the University of Southern Queensland (Bachelor of Music with Honours). In 2008, he won the Joyce Campbell-Lloyd Overseas Scholarship which funded lessons with Robert Dean of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. Roles performed while studying include Papageno in The Magic Flute, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Samuel/Saul understudy in Saul, Macheath in The Beggar’s Opera and Billy Bigelow in Carousel.
Engagements with Opera Queensland include Maximilian in Candide, Servant and Marchese (cover) in La traviata, Yamadori (cover) and Commissioner (cover) in Madama Butterfly and 2nd Priest in St Matthew Passion. He has also sung in the Opera Queensland Chorus for productions of Aida, The Girl of the Golden West, Tosca, Macbeth, The Mikado, Carmen, Otello, Cinderella, La bohème and The Perfect American.
Jon’s concert stage performances include guest soloist engagements with Brisbane Concert Choir, Toowoomba Philharmonic Choir, the USQ Singers, Musica Antiqua Collegii, Ars Cantorum Toowoomba. He has performed in several Toowoomba productions as John in Miss Saigon, André in The Phantom of the Opera and Prince Charming in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
