A member of Cologne Opera between 1993 and 2007, Andrew Collis has also performed with some of the world’s leading opera companies including Frankfurt Opera, San Diego Opera and Opera Australia, and in festivals including the Vienna, Hong Kong, Perth and New Zealand Festivals.
Andrew has received particular praise for his title roles in Don Pasquale and The Marriage of Figaro, Schaunard and Colline in La bohème, Hobson in Peter Grimes, Speaker in The Magic Flute, and Leporello in Don Giovanni. Other major roles include Nick Shadow in The Rake’s Progress, Marquis in Dialogues of the Carmelites, Angelotti in Tosca, Mr Flint in Billy Budd, Monterone in Rigoletto, Zuniga in Carmen, Friar Lawrence in Roméo et Juliette and Dr Falke in Die Fledermaus.
Andrew’s recent engagements include Simone in Gianni Schicchi and Basilio and Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro, for West Australian Opera; Bonze in Madame Butterfly at Perth Festival; Colline in La bohème, Bonze in Madama Butterfly and Dr Bartolo in The Barber of Seville for Opera Queensland; Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola for New Zealand Opera; Henry Kissinger in Nixon in China for Auckland Arts Festival, Valens in Theodora for Pinchgut Opera; Haydn’s Harmoniemesse for Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra; St John Passion for Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and also for West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
In 2017, Andrew performs Pooh-Bah in The Mikado with New Zealand Opera and for Opera Queensland Nourabad in The Pearlfishers, Sir Roderic in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Ruddigore, or the Witch’s Curse! and in this years’ Opera at Jimbour as part of the Queensland Music Festival.
